This simple, delicious healthy homemade muesli fruit bowl takes as little as 5 minutes to prepare so you can enjoy a wholesome breakfast everyday!
This toasted healthy homemade muesli recipe is completely fuss free and surprisingly quick to throw together. Just dry toast the muesli ingredients in a frying pan briefly, add yogurt or milk, top with fresh fruit and enjoy!
Oats aren’t usually my first choice when it comes to breakfast food. Hot porridge just doesn’t taste right in the summer months (overnight oats do and I occasionally enjoy a bowl of refreshing oaty breakfast). As for shop-bought granola I usually find it too sweet. I much prefer homemade granola.
Healthy homemade muesli
Occasionally I enjoy a bowl of homemade muesli. So essentially oats, seeds and nuts and dried fruit. In this easy muesli recipe I have used fresh rather than dried fruit mainly because strawberries are in season. You could use your favourite fruit. This recipe is also different from ready-made muesli in that I toasted the oats and seeds quickly to allow them to release more flavour.
How to make healthy homemade muesli
The oats are toasted along with some seeds (I used chia and flaxseed but you can use your own favourite seed combination) as well as cinnamon, which will add even more flavour and goodness to your breakfast.
Not to mention the aroma that will fill your kitchen!
And since the whole toasting operation takes only a couple of minutes you can have freshly made, nutritious, fragrant muesli every day. Just add the fruit, a dollop of yogurt (or milk if you prefer), drizzle with maple syrup, honey or agave syrup and enjoy!

If you prefer to make a larger batch of homemade muesli allow it to cool completely, then place in a bowl or plastic container, cover and use within 3-4 days.
What else to add to your homemade muesli
You could of course add (any) dried fruit to your toasted muesli but do so after you’ve toasted the oats and seeds. Chop it up or add in whole. You could also use nuts or other seeds (toast them along with the oats). Coconut flakes or shavings work well too.
